Mi Papa II

About the Artist
As a Painter first and foremost, black and white photography is an extension and an exploratory medium for me. It is how to re-iterate the spontaneity of a canvas-stainer-marker and using the either film or digital in photography to “see” my immediate surroundings while evoking the sensibility of a seer and watcher rather than a “Creator”. These photos were taken from iPhone while only using black and white conversions akin to my resurgence of black and white film experiences while in school.

I have set up my own darkroom and to print traditionally while using the iPhone for immediate capturing whenever I don’t have any film. The utmost is to be able to delve into photography AND painting as one breathing, organic looker and participant at the same time.

Artist Statement
Glimpses, observations and visual reactions…to my immediate stimuli whether from direct personal space or observed space about me. Mi Papa II, as a portrait of my father, parodied from the chiaroscuro and the Caravaggio while in the hospital – a serious play while paying homage to my mentor/inspiration as an artist. Bueno Silva as a painter – and as my father, friend and adviser stares at a distant horizon beyond the window.

Chiaroscuro, Composiiton and Compassion are the Three C’s of my alliterations observed and expressed in my photography whether via digital or analog means.
