Kissaten fantasy

by Khang Tan Pham

a sliver of sunlight
slips through a crack from the overhang
above us,
watering his cigarette-clad fingers
with spring

darn that dream by Wes Montgomery
floods from the stereo
and numbs
everything else

try to enjoy it, he says
“around here, this is as good as it gets.
good people, good music,
the sun,
sipping on coffee while smoking a cigarette;
my hand dangling smoothly from this balcony”

he laughs
“goddamn, that’s nice”

I believe it
so I give it a go
and he’s right
right now, it feels really nice
