Sapphire

by Yuna Kang

I write bits of you in poems
Scattered like the wind-kissed petals on cherry-blossom days, I see you
like how a child sees a piece of sea glass,
scratched and colorful and smooth and perfect and
I do my best to love you, to see you,
but it’s not always enough.
Murky depths characterize our ankles
and then our throats.
Swelling like the final notes of a symphony,
I reach up,
I reach out
