About the Artist
Frank Yu is an American street and fine arts photographer based in NYC. Previously, he lived in China and Southeast Asia for 17 years documenting the youth cultures of Asia in cosplay, art and fashion.
He has held photography exhibits of his works in Beijing, Berlin and New York. Currently, he is part of a group exhibit on Potasia exhibiting at the Charles Wang Center at Stonybrook University.
His philosophy on photography is for real images with real people elevated to snapshots of performance art in daily observation. Within the framework of the mundane, there are glimpses of the sublime in the human condition that his photography seeks to illuminate. Much of his work in imbued with the Japanese aesthetic of wabi sabi and its appreciation of the imperfect, the incomplete and the impermanent, which also describes Frank pretty well too.
